Winners of Our Facebook Contest Announced!

It's Monday!...Hooray? Sadly, we didn't make cupcakes over the weekend BUT there is exciting news. We reached over 100 likes on our Facebook page! I can not put into word on how exciting that is and how much that means to us to have have all of your support. Since we reached 100 likes by February 1st, we announced the winners of the free half dozen variety cupcakes! You know who you are and congrats! We'll be baking them to perfection and shipping them to you shortly. The box will consist of our top favorite cupcakes and will be a surprise that you'll hopefully enjoy! We'll announce more winners when we reach 200 likes, so keep on sharing!

In other news, I want to experiment with new cupcakes using different kinds of teas. Chai tea? Green tea? I don't know yet, but I think a Green tea cupcake with a honey frosting. I can't be the only person who puts honey in their tea.

I will admit that the green color put me off a bit, but I think they'll be awesome. We get asked what our favorite cupcake we ever made was and for me it's by far our Mandarin Orange Pineapple Cupcakes. Sounds...interesting right? Well, what makes them delicious is the airy cake helped with diced pineapples. We also use pineapple juice in the whipped cream icing, topped off with a little slice of orange. The result? A cupcake that practically melts in your mouth and tastes light and fluffy.

If you attempt anything with fruit, be aware that you should probably coat the fruit in a little flour and then stir it into the batter so that the fruit doesn't sink to the bottom. Also, because fruit has so much juice in it, be mindful of the ratio of dry ingredients to fruit, so that the fruit doesn't come out too dry or too soggy. I hope you guys are able to keep up with how I write. If you haven't noticed I'm practically ADD and will bring up completely random topics to where you don't understand how I got from Point A to Point B. Anyway, Green Tea Cupcakes: Check. Mandarin Orange Cupcakes: Check. Winners of our contest: Check. Oh! I forgot to mention, how weird would it be to eat cupcakes with Chili Pepper? Too weird? Let us know in the comments!

Strawberry, strawberry........and bacon?

Hope everyone had a good week! I for one hate waking up at 7:30 A.M. every morning for work, but a good cupcake that we made the night before definitely brightens my day, especially with a good cup of coffee. Calories don't exist in the cupcake world! Over the weekend we made a couple batches of strawberry cupcakes (we really should come up with better names for our cupcakes.. maybe we'll do a poll!). Anyway, this cupcake was moist (hate that word) and I liked the chunks of strawberry. Though out of all the kinds of strawberry cupcakes we've made, my favorite is our Strawberry Lemonade cupcakes. We ALSO made bacon cupcakes! Yes. Bacon. We thought, "These dark chocolate cupcakes with white chocolate ganache are pretty delicious, but what could make them even better?" Well, that's more or less how the conversation went.

Double Chocolate Bacon:

Strawberry Lemonade:

Strawberry:

We really try not to add a ton of icing mostly because we will try other cupcakes from different places and it's typically 90% icing. Would you like a little cupcake with your icing? I can just feel the cavities rejoicing. We work really hard on perfecting the cake, so why hide it behind tons of icing? I do love a good icing though and my favorite so far has been the strawberry lemon combination, but the candied bacon on top of our Double Chocolate Bacon cupcakes definitely takes the cake! (Badum pshh....get it? Takes the cake? Cause we sell cupcakes.....Never mind.) I could just eat them everyday for every meal, for the protein of course. If you're interested in making your own candied bacon, there are TONS of recipes out on the internet, but ours are the best of course. We are making cupcakes for a child's birthday party soon, so stay tuned for what we come up with and pictures of what I can only imagine as a bunch kids running around in complete chaos with icing on their faces. Exciting none the less.

P.S. Thank you all for your support and encouragement. Keep spreading the word! We're so close to picking a winner for our Facebook contest to giveaway a free half dozen variety cupcakes!

New Blog!

Finally! A blog for our cupcake business! Let me start by saying that I've never had a blog before, so bare with me.  I figure a good place to start is a question that I have to remind myself of every now and again;  "Why did we want to make cupcakes in the first place anyway?" Well, to put it simply, it started with Halloween. Imagine your at work and they're having a baking contest for Halloween. What are you going to make? Something easy, "cute", and  could use a box cake mix. Cupcakes! That's becoming popular right? It's fool proof. Unless you're like me and are extremely messy. I don't mean, "Whoops, I spilled a little milk. I'll just wipe it up.", I mean, 3 days later I can still see cake mix on the ceiling and I'm not sure how it happened. Either way, how would we decorate it to make it look Halloween-y? In the end, we came up with a chocolate cupcake with a vanilla frosting and dyed it pink. Then we squiggled lines on top to make it look like brains...we thought it was clever.

They're certainly...something. They didn't taste awful nor did they taste awesome. Following this little experiment we started making cupcakes for little gatherings, pretty much any excuse to mess around with cupcakes to experiment with flavors and making our own batter because lets face it, boxed cake mix has its time and place (like when you're extremely lazy and vanilla or chocolate will suffice), but having your own perfected recipe makes you feel like you should have your own food network show, but then you realize you're way to weird and awkward to be in front of a camera. Months later, we have our own business started up and have made many dozens of cupcakes with favorite recipes and unique cupcakes that people actually want buy, so that's good enough for me. :) So, what better way to show our progress and share ideas than a blog? Expect a new post once a week with new recipes and hopefully more ideas that inspire you to start something yourselves or just be like me, who reads food blogs and watches the food network and never actually makes any of it.
